Practical Guide To Presenting Simple Science Fair Projects
It is normal to experience nervousness even while presenting even simple science fair projects. But you need to get the whole idea structured into a project. If you keep a few things in mind you can easily make your science fair project presentation an easy game.
Your gestures
Try to be relaxed. Do not overdo your gestures and appear artificial. Just think as if you are having a commonplace conversation. The whole thing will become easy if you keep this in mind. However do not ever put your hands in your pocket or behind your back. Also don't put your hands anywhere near your face or keep your arms crossed across your chest or stomach.
Maintain eye contact
Never try to avoid the eyes of your judges or your friends or the parents who have come to see your science project. This will send the wrong signal to your judges. Concentrate your focus on a single person at a time.
Voice modulation
Get easy with your voice. Do not fumble with your words. Try to visualize how you talk with your friends. Try to create a similar ambience with your attitude and everything will become simple. Introductory remark
Before beginning your presentation do not forget to give an introductory remark. This will set the mood of your listeners. Give a smile or laugh slightly to set the atmosphere. Tell them about your project
Prepare preview sentences for your main points. Keep small note cards at hand with certain keywords so that you can remember your points easily. Number your cards or you might get them mixed up. Keep these cards at your table where you can see them easily. Add conclusion
Always add a conclusion to your presentation. Use a strong positive statement to make your conclusion appealing. Preparation for questions
It is quite normal that right after your presentation you would face a number of questions either from the judges or from the onlookers of your project. So try to anticipate beforehand what sort of questions you might be asked. If it is one of your friend asking the question then answer as if you are in a normal conversation with him. Usage of display board
Make use of your display board while giving your presentation and even while you are answering questions related to it. Try to avail a pointer so that you can explain your points better. Always stand on the side of the board so that your audience can look at your report easily, without any visual hindrance. Lastly rehearse your presentation in front of your parents, siblings, and grand parents. You can even rehearse before the mirror all alone if you want to. This will help you identify the flaws that might take place in your presentation and you will also get an opportunity to rectify it before d-day.
