Top Five Types Of School Science Fair Projects
Confused as to what type of science fair project you should prepare for school? It's not the time to be puzzled. Though you have moved away from the elementary level where science projects used to be as simple as making a model rocket, middle school science fair projects are even more exciting.
Here you can be creative and let your imagination flow. At the same time you have to conduct a detailed research and a wider study, keeping in mind the seriousness of your standard. Taking all these into consideration your school science fair project can be both educative and interesting.
There are, in general, five major types of projects:
1. Investigative projects- This type of projects are experiment based. You need to prepare a hypothesis and perform an experiment. The experiment will be guided by scientific methods. For instance, if you are to prepare a project on how salt affects the boiling point of water, you need to conduct an experiment in order to illustrate your statement. With a proper experiment you can easily test the process by adding different amounts of salt to water and recording the temperature at which it boils. Usually at science fairs you have to submit an investigative science project. The project instructions will include the words experiment, scientific method, control, or variable, by dint of which you will understand that you are to submit an investigative project. 2. Demonstration projects- in this type of science project, you are often asked to demonstrate a scientific principle. In most cases your class teacher will want you to present the project before the class as an oral report. Here you are not required to perform any experiment as there is no control over different variables. 3. Research projects- a research report is more of a science report. You can use any kind of topic for your research project. In these projects what you basically do is research a particular topic and pen down what you have discovered in the process. These projects are simpler in terms of their content and methods of preparation. 4. Models- in this type of project, you need to build a model structure for postulating your theory. In order to explain a specific scientific principle you take the help of various models or mini-structures. 5. Collections- as the name suggests, here you have to display a collection of different objects. This is essential in giving an overview of your topic. For instance, you showcase a rock collection or display pictures of various animals belonging to a particular species. All these types of projects are designed to help you learn and prepare your own school science fair project. Whatever kind you choose, just remember that you have to be interested in it and enjoy working it out.
