Three Unbeatable Physics Science Fair Projects

Physics primarily deals with science of energy and matter and studies the interaction between the two. The subject is vast and it covers anything from electronics, electricity, magnetism, hydrogen fuels, solar cells, to rocket science and even robotics. It is something that is closely associated with our daily life. Everything that we do in our regular life is corresponding to physics one way or the other. You can have a toy steamboat or anything applying physics as a part of your physics science fair projects.

Most simple steam powered boat

By applying physics you can create a small steamboat without comprising of any valves or moving parts. The material used for making the boat is a plastic bottle made of white high-density polythene. A small candle, preferably those that come with an aluminum can, is used near the bow of the boat. You will also need a soft copper tubing to form the coil in the center. Pierce two holes at the back of the boat and put the copper wire through it. This will form water tight fit. You will have to bend the tubing so the coil is above the surface where there will be the candle flame. The boat is now all set for launch.

Making ice cream without an ice cream maker

You can make homemade ice cream by yourself in less time than a normal ice cream maker. Here the ice cream freezes lot more fast because each serving is frozen in its own batch of salt and ice. Another reason for quick freezing is that the serving is in flat, thin containers following which the salt and the ice contact more ice cream at one instant.

How to melt a metal in hot water

You can make a silvery metal wire convert into drops of liquid by holding it in the steam water. This metal wire is made of tin, bismuth, and indium. These all are pure metals and have a sharp melting point. When different elements are mixed together, some react together to make compounds. Compounds comprise of similar proportions of one atom to another. Excess of any single element over the other element present will not have any reaction. This will remain in the form of pure element.

How to make a simple solar powered heat engine

For making this simple solar powered heat engine, all you need is one happy drinking bird, a cup of boiling water, some black and white or any reflective paint and a sharp knife. Firstly you will have to remove the bird's feather tail, its hat and the fuzzy coating on its head.

All this can be removed easily with the help of the knife. If you soak it in the hot water and then scrap it with knife, then it will come off more easily. After this the bottom half of the bird has to be painted in black and the top half in white or silver. After the paint has dried, put the bird in the sun. Adjust it properly so that it is properly balanced. Here the heat of the sun is used to power the bird.

In all these science toys thermodynamics is widely used. It enables us to understand the relationship between heat and energy.
